Plateau State University in Bokkos has announced a two-day mourning period following the tragic demise of a 200-Level Computer Science student, Dading James Jordan, in the recent attacks on Chikam community, adjacent to the university.
In a press statement released by the Registrar of the University, Yakubu Ayuba, PLASU expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the student and suspended the ongoing semester examinations as a mark of respect and solidarity.
Ayuba conveyed condolences to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Best, the entire university management and staff, the bereaved family, and the student body, acknowledging the irreparable loss suffered by the institution.
Despite concerted efforts by the Plateau State Government, security agencies, university management, and stakeholders to enhance security, the regrettable incident occurred, prompting PLASU’s decision to observe a two-day mourning period and halt examinations.
“In view of this sad development, Management has declared a two-day mourning period on Friday and Saturday,” Ayuba stated, urging students to remain calm and law-abiding while calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to safeguard the university community.
Meanwhile, Governor Caleb Mutfwang appealed for calm, assuring citizens, especially students, of the government’s unwavering commitment to restoring normalcy and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang condemned the barbaric attack and pledged to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the heinous acts.
He urged citizens to maintain composure in the face of adversity as security agencies work tirelessly to restore peace and security.
