The Plateau State Government is asking citizens to donate blood at the Plateau Specialists Hospital to help save the lives of students rescued from a collapsed school building in Jos.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Musa Ashoms, made this appeal in a statement released Friday evening.
The statement is being aired regularly on the state-owned radio and television stations. It reads, “As a result of the immense casualties from the collapse of a school building in the Busa Buji area of Jos North Local Government Area, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communication Plateau State, Ibrahim Musa Ashoms, is appealing to the sense of humanity of members of the public to donate blood at major and government hospitals in the city. This is to meet the overwhelming need of victims of the collapse and save lives of mainly schoolchildren. This emergency situation requires emergency aid from citizens.”
The two-storey building of Saints Academy, a secondary and primary school in the Busa-Buji community of Jos North Local Area, collapsed on Friday morning at about 8:30 a.m.
Students and teachers were trapped inside as they were writing their third term examinations.
22 people have been confirmed dead and 132 were injured with six in critical condition as a result of the collapse of a school building.
