The Plateau State Government has approved the new minimum wage of N70,000 for its workers.

The State Head of Civil Service, Stephen Gadong, in a statement on Thursday, confirmed that the new minimum wage was approved on Wednesday.

The statement reads, “Following the Agreement of the Committee on Consequential Adjustment on Salaries on November 13, 2024, the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has approved the immediate implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage for workers in the State.”

Gadong said the approval was in line with Mutfwang’s commitment to prioritising the well-being of the state’s workforce in recognition of their vital role in driving Plateau’s development goals.

He added, “As this new wage policy takes effect, Civil Servants are encouraged to embrace this gesture by renewing their commitment to their duties with increased dedication and zeal, to foster a culture of productivity and excellence in service across the State.”

In July 2024, President Bola Tinubu approved an increase in the minimum wage for Nigerian workers from N30,000 to N70,000.

However, the implementation across states has been gradual, with some still yet to adopt the new minimum wage.
