Plane carrying Brazilian football team crashed in Colombia, 76 confirmed dead (photos & video)

Latest report informs that an airplane with 81 people on board, including players from a Brazilian football team, Chapecoense, has crashed in Colombia, the country’s aviation authorities said.

It was gathered from the Colombian aviation officials that the plane declared an emergency between the municipalities of La Ceja and La Union.

The crash occurred in an area called Cerro El Gordo near Medellin, officials said.

The civil aviation agency had initially announced that six passengers, three players, two crew members, and one journalist, survived the crash.

Police have, however, confirmed there are five survivors in the Colombia plane crash out of the total of 81 people on board.

Authorities told CNN en Español’s Fernando Ramos over the phone that one of those survivors died on the way to the hospital.

At least two soccer players and one crew member survived, authorities said.

Chapecoense players Alan Luciano Ruschel and Jackson Ragnar Follmann survived, as did crew member Ximena Suarez.

Three days of mourning has already been declared in Brazil.

Authorities did not immediately release the names of the other two survivors. But it was gathered that were 22 football players, 28 support staff, 22 journalists and 9 crew member on board.

The chartered aircraft was reportedly flying to Colombia from Bolivia where the Chapecoense team were due to compete in Copa Sudamericana final against Atletico Nacional on Wednesday.
