Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, has deactivated her Instagram account as she grieves the death of her younger sister, Ruth Otabor.
Checks on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, showed that her page was no longer accessible. This move comes days after Ruth was confirmed dead on Sunday, August 31, after being hit by a Dangote truck on August 13 outside Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State. The accident led to the amputation of her leg, but she passed away despite medical efforts.
A close family friend said, “Phyna is devastated. She has been trying to stay strong, but the loss of her sister, combined with the things being said online, has been overwhelming. She just needs time away from the spotlight to heal.”
Phyna faced online backlash during the crisis after she reportedly appealed to Dangote for financial help, with some accusing her of seeking attention.
Others, however, defended her, saying she was only desperate to save her sister.
Following Ruth’s passing, the Dangote Group expressed sadness over the incident, confirming that financial and medical support had been provided and that plans were underway to fly her abroad for further treatment before her death.
Many fans have since flooded social media with messages of support.
One user, adaeze_ezeoma, commented, “I feel so much for her. People were bashing her, no one knows the confusion that comes with handling such a problem.”
Another, aspire_reim, added, “Nigerians turned social media to their real life and it’s nothing good that ever came out of it.”
Supporters continue to pray for Phyna as she takes a break from the public eye to process her grief.
