A final year student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Emmanuel Omoregie, on Sunday set the internet buzzing with exquisite photographs of a larger-than-life sculpture of the (now famous) ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ campaigner and political activist, Aisha Yesufu.
The development is coming two days after one of the Chibok girls, whose release Aisha and other female activists vigorously canvassed, was rescued from captivity.
A statement released by Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, revealed that the rescued girl was married to a Boko Haram fighter and returned with two kids she was delivered of in captivity.
Aside from the Chibok debacle, Aisha has been involved in a handful of other activism and freedom fighting initiatives.
The UNIBEN Fine and Applied Arts student, who posted the pictures of the statue on Twitter, disclosed that he resolved to go the extra mile to appreciate Aisha’s roles in contemporary activism in Nigeria.
The imposing statue, which mirrored Aisha’s outing at the Lekki Toll Gate during the October 2020 EndSARS protest, is presently sitting in Ekehuan Campus of the University of Benin.
Omoregie further disclosed that the life-size sculpture was also part of the requirements for the award of his B.A Fine and Applied Arts in the University.
As expected, the viral photos caught the attention of the activist, who reacted to Omoregie’s goodwill gesture.
While appreciating him, the overwhelmed Aisha tweeted that she was speechless.
