PHOTOS: Tanzania holds late president Magufuli’s funeral
Former president of Tanzania, John Magufuli’s funeral service has been held today in the capital, Dodoma.
The BBC reports that thousands of Tanzanians gathered to pay their last respects to the former president who passed away on Wednesday.
Ministers and lawmakers were among those who came to mourn the ex-president.
WuzupNigeria reported that the then Vice President of Tanzania, Samia Hassan announced that Magufuli died of heart-related complications.
“It is with great regret that I inform you that today, 17 March 2021, at 18:00, we have lost our courageous leader, President John Pombe Magufuli of Tanzania,” She said.
Hassan has since been sworn-in in place of Magufuli, becoming the first female president of the African country.
In her first public address as president, the 61-year-old leader announced 21-days of mourning for Magufuli and public holidays on March 22 and on March 25, the day the late president will be buried.
