According to Professor Babatunde Rabiu, the Director/Chief Executive of Centre for Atmospheric Research, National Space Research and Development Agency, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Anyigba, an annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon’s apparent diameter is smaller than the Sun’s, blocking most of the Sun’s light and causing the Sun to look like an annulus (ring).

The partial eclipse was said to be visible across most of Africa and parts of the Middle East. In any particular place it would be seen for a significantly shorter duration as the shadow moves across the Earth.
