PHOTOS: Nigerians honour WTO DG, Okonjo-Iweala, with headgear challenge
In the midst of the unrests and tensions about a civil war due to ethnic violence, heightened insecurity as well as abductions and killings linked to the rogue Fulani herdsmen, Nigerians have found another reason to be united.
Former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was officially announced as the first female Director-General of the World Trade Organisation on Monday and congratulations have kept flying in from every angle.
Okonjo-Iweala who also served as the Managing Director, Operations of the World Bank is also a continental treasure as she became the first African to hold the position at WTO and while she represents women all over the world, she is nothing but a role model on planet earth.
However, Okonjo-Iweala’s fashion statement preaches everything you need to know about the Nigerian woman with her portrayal of humility, elegance, beauty, dedication, ambition, homeliness, amongst others but the most important aspect is the royalty depicted with her headgear.
Called Gèlè in Yoruba, kwalliyar kai in Hausa and ihe mkpuchi isi in Igbo, the tribeless headgear is just like a peacock, one bird with many colours and it represents a crown on every Nigerian woman’s head as seen on Okonjo-Iweala with her captivating smile.
To celebrate Okonjo-Iweala’s appointment, Nigerians have taken to Twitter with #BeLikeNgoziChallenge taking the number one spot on the trending topics of the day with 18.1K Tweets at the time of this report.
