The #OurMumuDonDo movement led by its co-convener, Deji Adeyanju and popular Nigerian artiste, CharlyBoy on Monday marched to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja to protest the plight of Nigerians and other migrants who are sold into slavery in Libya.

To emphasise the call, the protesters tied their hands up with iron chains and sealed their lips with adhesive tape. They brandished a big banner with the inscription “Slave Trade In Africa Must Stop”.

The group said that they were touched by the plight of Nigerians who are going through horrible experience in the hands of Libya authorities.

The protesters urged the government to speed up action to ensure the safety of thousands of Nigerians who are on the danger list.

Deji Adeyanju called on the ministry’s officials who are charged with the responsibility to evacuating thousands of Nigerians who are still stranded in detention camps in Libya to sensitise the public in the day to day interventions of the government.

He said, “We are here to highlight to the government plight of our fellow brothers in Libya. We are here to ask, what government is doing ? what step have they taken and what is the situation of Nigerians there? How many Nigerians have been brought back?

He called on the government to show more concern and be proactive in the safety and humanitarian condition of its citizens.

Another protester who spoke on behalf of the group, Ariyo Dare Atoye remarked that Nigerians are migrating to Europe in search of greener pasture as a result of bad leadership couple with corruption.

The Leader of the group, Charles Oputa (Charly Boy) urged Nigerians youths to be alive to their responsibilities and stand up against any form of injustice and oppression adding that the future of Nigeria is in their hands.

The Head of Mission to Libya and Malta, Iliya Danladi Fachano who addressed the protesters said that the mission is doing everything possible to ensuring that Nigerians migrants who are repatriated back to the country.
