Supporters of former President Goodluck Jonathan caused a stir on Saturday at the Peoples Democratic Party convention in Ibadan as they arrived at the venue displaying flags and posters suggesting a Jonathan comeback in 2027.
By 8 a.m., the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba had already filled with party members from different parts of the country. Despite a Federal High Court ruling on Thursday stopping the exercise, turnout remained heavy as more supporters entered the stadium.
Security personnel were stationed around key areas to control movement and prevent disorder.
Vanguard reported that PDP loyalists from the South East, North, and South West arrived in Ibadan on Friday and booked hotel rooms across the city ahead of the convention.
Some groups pushing for Jonathan’s return were seen holding banners with his image, paired with that of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, presenting him as Jonathan’s preferred running mate.

There has been growing speculation that Jonathan may seek the 2027 presidential ticket. Though he has not spoken publicly on the matter, some of his close allies have hinted at his readiness to contest.
Posters of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde were also seen at the stadium on Friday, adding to the political colour at the event.
