PHOTOS: Gunmen kill APC chieftain’s orderly, driver in Delta

Gunmen have killed the mobile policeman attached to a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Delta State, Chief Michael Johnny, a native of the Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri SouthWest Local Government Area of the state.

The gunmen also killed the personal driver of the politician.

The incident happened at Airport Junction, in Effurun, Uvwie council area of the state about 11:12am on Sunday, July 4, after the driver and the orderly dropped the politician’s wife at an undisclosed church.

The gunmen were alleged to be after Johnny and his wife but they were not in the red Venza when they struck.

The policeman was first shot in his right hand to demobilise him before being shot in the head for the second time by the fleeing gunmen.

The driver was also shot, both died on the spot.

The gunmen, who were said to have launched the attack from a Yellow Lexus SUV, did not take away any property including the official rifle of the deceased policeman.

Johnny, an APC Ijaw leader, who confirmed the incident on the telephone, said the hoodlums were after him and his family.

While decrying the killing of his driver and his police escort, he said he had reported the matter to the police and investigation had commenced.

Meanwhile, the acting spokesperson for the State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident said an investigation is ongoing, adding that no one was kidnapped during the attack.
