A photograph shared from President Bola Tinubu’s reported meeting with Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Paris has sparked controversy online after social media users noticed a Grok watermark on the image.

President Tinubu was said to have met Kagame on Sunday, January 4, 2026, during a private engagement in Paris, France. The image was shared via Tinubu’s verified X account to announce the meeting.

However, users quickly pointed out that the photo carried the watermark of Grok, a generative artificial intelligence chatbot developed by xAI, a company owned by Elon Musk. Grok is widely known for AI-powered image generation and enhancement.

The same image was also reposted by the Special Assistant to the President on New Media, Dada Olusegun, further fuelling reactions across social media platforms.

Several X users questioned why an image with an AI watermark was used to document a high-level diplomatic meeting.

Olayinka commented, “Where in Europe is Tinubu? Why post grok generated photo? No real photo from the meeting?”

Joshua Siyanbola also wrote, “The picture seems to be AI generated image. Infact, it carry Grok signature. I believe we can do better.”

Attorney General of the Unborn Nation criticised the post, saying, “DO, the image has Grok watermark at the bottom right corner. You should tell us where your principal is and what he is doing there rather than using AI images to fool your old self.”

Another user, Gospel Logic, wrote, “Grok logo gave you out bro, you could have edited it out.”

Confirming the meeting earlier, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had written on Sunday, “President Bola Tinubu at a private lunch in Paris with the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, discussing world affairs and advancing Africa. Sunday, January 4, 2026.”
