Should pastors drive expensive cars?
Issues of owning expensive properties by pastors, especially cars have been subjects of constant controversies.
Recently, news that a South African pastor, and founder of the Incredible Happenings Church, Paseka ‘Mboro’ Motsoeneng, bought a brand new BMW i8 car fired the debate.
Pastors are still human. For all we know, that pastor has been saving for that car for years or drove beaters his whole life and decided to give himself a nice one as a present or is stressed out with his job and wanted something tangible to make him happy or relaxed, someone commented on social media platform, Reddit.
The commentator added that cars could be the pastors hobby or the thing he chooses to splurge on.
We don’t know what his budget is or what the rest of his lifestyle is. He could very well be spending a large part of his salary helping people. He sure spends a lot of time doing it. My old pastor lived in a multimillion dollar waterfront mansion. He got it for like 200k from an auction after the drug dealer who owned it got busted. When he moved, he gave a ton of the profits from selling it to missions.
Another who views such expenditure as wasteful and unchristian said, Christianity focuses a lot on love and giving to your fellow man, which a priest/pastor is supposed to truly exhibit and be a guide for the rest of his/her congregation. Why is it acceptable then for a pastor to buy a car which clearly speak to vanity and waste? Is a Honda civic not good enough? Why did he have to waste that money on such a nice car?
On what side of the argument are you? Wait, before you make a comment see four African pastors and their expensive cars:
1. Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) drives a Targa 911 S4 Porsche which costs N40,488,650 ($122600)
2. Pastor Fireman of the Fireman Ministry has a fleet of cars painted yellow. He also drives a customised hummer jeep.
3. South African Pastor Mbhoro gets a BMW worth N49,084,327 ($148,622)
4. Malawian Pastor Hasting Salanje of Wells of Revival Ministries in Johannesburg also has a fleet of cars and is proud of it
