A fire outbreak has ravaged the COVID-19 Centre located within the Sobi Specialist Hospital, Alagbado, Ilorin, owned by the Kwara state government.
The incident, reported to have been caused by an unidentified person setting an undergrowth around the facility on fire, led to the subsequent spread of the flames to the COVID-19 Centre ward.
The Kwara State Fire Service confirmed the incident, assuring that the swift response by their personnel prevented significant damage to the COVID-19 Centre. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties or injuries resulting from the fire.
In a statement issued by the Head of Department, Media and Publicity of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, he provided details on the response to the fire incident. “On Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024, at 08:47 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded to a fire incident at Sobi Specialist Hospital (COVID-19 Centre) Alagbado, Ilorin.”
“Upon arrival, the firemen found one of the six wards ablaze and immediately began firefighting efforts to contain and extinguish the flames, showcasing their expertise to prevent extensive damage.”
The investigation revealed that the fire originated from an undergrowth set ablaze by an unidentified individual, leading to the subsequent spread to the COVID-19 Centre ward.
The Executive Secretary of the Hospital Management Board, Dr. Abdulraheem Malik, was present at the scene, commending the firemen for their prompt response and commendable performance.
