Flying Officer David Sangokoya of the Nigerian Air Force has been awarded the prestigious International Sword of Honour for 2023 at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell United Kingdom.

The accolade, given to the best international cadet of the year, was presented to Sangokoya by His Royal Highness, William, the Prince of Wales, on behalf of King Charles III during a Royal Graduation ceremony on September 12, 2024.

The Nigerian Air Force disclosed this achievement in a statement shared on Friday.

Sangokoya had participated in the Modularised Initial Officers’ Training Course 22 from March to September 2023 and emerged as the best international cadet.

The RAFCC graduates up to eight courses annually, and the International Sword of Honour is awarded to the most outstanding international cadet.

“The prestigious award was presented to Flying Officer Sangokoya by His Royal Highness, William, the Prince of Wales, on behalf of King Charles III, at the Royal Graduation on 12 September 2024,” the NAF statement confirmed.

Reacting to the honour, Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar congratulated Sangokoya on his remarkable achievement.

“This prestigious recognition is a testament to the officer’s focus, dedication, and hard work throughout his training,” the CAS noted.

Abubakar also praised Sangokoya’s family for their support, stating that it undoubtedly played a key role in his success.

“NAF is proud of this accomplishment, which shines a positive light on both the Service and the nation at large,” he added.

The award serves as a significant achievement for both the officer and the Nigerian Air Force, highlighting the skill and commitment of its personnel on an international stage.
