The aftermath of the explosion in the Adeyi area of Bodija, Ibadan, on the night of Tuesday, January 17, has left residents in uncertainty, with many injured and some fatalities.
Reports indicate that three people lost their lives, and 77 others sustained injuries in a massive blast caused by explosives, rocking more than 20 buildings in one of Nigeria’s largest cities on Tuesday night.
Authorities revealed these details on Wednesday as rescue workers intensified efforts to search for individuals feared trapped in the debris.
In the densely populated Ibadan city of the southwestern state of Oyo, residents heard a loud blast around 7:45 p.m., prompting panic and causing many to evacuate their homes.
As of Wednesday, security forces had cordoned off the affected area, and medical personnel, along with ambulances, stood by for rescue efforts.
Ongoing investigations suggest that the blast resulted from explosives stored for illegal mining operations, as shared by Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde, who visited the Bodija area of Ibadan.
