Petrol souvenir: Lagos arraigns Erelu Okin 10 days after sealing Lekki event centre

Lagos State Government on Monday arraigned Chief Pearl Chindinma Ogbulu, popularly known as Erelu Okin, before a Special Offence (Mobile) Court sitting at Oshodi.

The development is coming less than two weeks after officials of the Lagos State Government sealed off Havillah Event Centre, the venue where kegs of Premium Motor Spirit popularly called petrol were handed out as souvenirs to party guests on March 5.

Recall that WuzupNigeria reported that the party was organised by Ogbulu to celebrate her installation as Erelu Okin of Orile Kemta by His Royal Highness, Oba Tokunbo Okikiola Gbadegeshin Tejuosho.

Exclusive footage and photographs from the glamourous event went viral on social media but it was her choice of souvenir amidst the ongoing nationwide fuel scarcity that attracted much criticism.

Consequently, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu called on the appropriate authorities to look into the viral video and mete out appropriate sanction.

Erelu Okin appeared before the Chief Magistrate, Kehinde Ogundare, on a four charges of distributing Premium Motor Spirit also known as petrol as a souvenir during her installation party.

The offence, according to the police, violates Section 251(1), 168 (1), 244 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and Section 195 (2)(b) of the Environmental Management Protection Law of Lagos State 2017.

The defendant was granted bail in the sum of N2m and two responsible sureties in like sum.

The matter was adjourned till March 24, 2022 for trial.
