The Pentagon on Wednesday confirmed the identities of the final two American soldiers who were killed in a drone attack in Kuwait during the opening hours of the conflict with Iran.
The Department of Defense reported that Jeffrey R. O’Brien, 45, from Indianola, Iowa, and Robert M. Marzan, 54, from Sacramento, California, were among six US service members who died Saturday when an Iranian drone hit Port Shuaiba in Kuwait.
According to the Pentagon, Marzan is believed to have been killed at the scene.
Officials added that positive identification will be finalized by a medical examiner.
Earlier, the Pentagon had identified the other four victims as Cody A. Khork, 35, of Winter Haven, Florida; Noah L. Tietjens, 42, of Bellevue, Nebraska; Nicole M. Amor, 39, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; and Declan J. Coady, 20, of West Des Moines, Iowa.
Port Shuaiba, a commercial port in Kuwait, also serves as a critical logistics hub for the US military, facilitating the transport of tactical vehicles and supplies into the region.
The drone strike left 18 additional service members wounded.
The attack came after joint U.S.-Israeli operations on Iran Saturday resulted in the deaths of several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran has responded with retaliatory strikes targeting U.S. military assets and Gulf countries.
