Brazilian football legend Pele receives COVID-19 vaccine

Published

Brazilian football legend, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, popularly known as Pele, says he has been inoculated with COVID-19 vaccine.

The 80-year-old soccer maestro, who described his vaccination experience as ‘unforgettable,’ warned that the pandemic is not over yet.

He was inoculated on March 2, six weeks after his native country commenced its coronavirus vaccine rollout.

“Today was an unforgettable day. I received the vaccine. The pandemic is not over. We must remain disciplined to save lives because many people have not yet been vaccinated. This will pass if we think of each other and help each other,” he said on Instagram.

It is, however, unclear which of the global vaccines Pele received.

The football icon has been in self-isolation since COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic last March.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento remains the only player to win three World Cups and is regarded as one of football’s greatest players.
