The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, led by Dr Tanimu Turaki, SAN, is currently holding a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The meeting is taking place at Jonathan’s office in the Maitama area of Abuja.
It was gathered that the engagement forms part of ongoing consultations with key party leaders aimed at resolving the lingering crisis within the party.
Turaki, alongside other members of the NWC and some state chairmen of the PDP, arrived at the former President’s Maitama office at about 6pm.
The PDP has been engulfed in internal disputes since the conduct of its presidential primaries ahead of the 2023 general elections, which produced former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s flag bearer.
The crisis contributed to the party’s poor performance at the polls. Currently, the PDP is split into two factions, with the main group led by Tanimu Turaki and a splinter faction headed by Abdulrahman Muhammed as factional caretaker chairman.
The Abdulrahman Muhammed-led faction is said to be loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
