A member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Bode George, has declared that the party has come back to life despite widespread claims that it was politically defunct.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today following the party’s National Executive Committee meeting, George expressed optimism that the PDP had turned a corner in resolving its internal crisis.

“We have already done the resurrection today. An iroko tree doesn’t die, this party is an iroko tree because the tap root is so deep,” he said.

He criticized some members of the political class for being driven by selfish interests, asserting that they had deviated from the founding ideals of the PDP.

“We have learnt a lesson and that lesson was the beginning of the meeting yesterday and today. What it reminded me was the peak of our existence as a political party. I left the chambers feeling reinvigorated,” he stated.

George emphasized that the NEC meeting served as a moment of introspection for the party, acknowledging past mistakes and reaffirming its commitment to collective leadership.

“The PDP NEC meeting was the realisation of the failures and things that we have done. This party is not a party for one individual, no individual can claim ownership of this party,” he added.

The party elder also noted that the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, urged party members to shun selfishness and prioritize selflessness for the greater good of the party and the nation.

When asked whether he was considering defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress, George dismissed the idea outright.

He criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu, citing national hardship and policy failures.

He further insisted that the APC did not legitimately win the 2023 presidential election, questioning the credibility of the electoral process.
