The Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party has cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to refrain from meddling in the party’s internal matters, asserting that he no longer qualifies as a member of the opposition.
In a statement released on Monday, CP-PDP Chairman Obinna Nwachukwu said the group does not recognise Wike as part of the PDP, citing his open support for President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress.
“While as the umbrella of professionals in the PDP, the Conference will not descend to join issues with an appointee and apologist of the failed Tinubu administration, the FCT minister must realise that the PDP as a party has gone beyond being controlled, influenced or bullied by diatribes,” Nwachukwu stated.
He advised members of the PDP and the public to disregard recent remarks by Wike that sought to influence how the party is managed.
The CP-PDP clarified that leadership matters in the South South and South East zones have been resolved in accordance with a Supreme Court ruling delivered on March 21, 2025.
The statement noted: “The Supreme Court reaffirmed the supremacy of political parties in managing their internal affairs, including decisions on officials, membership, and nomination of candidates — areas over which the courts have no jurisdiction.”
It explained that due to the absence of a zonal congress in the South South, the party appointed a caretaker committee led by Chief Emmanuel Ogidi, in accordance with the PDP constitution. In contrast, the South East chapter held a congress that produced Chief Ali Odefa as its zonal leader. Both structures, the group said, remain fully functional.
The CP-PDP dismissed Wike’s references to court orders concerning the zonal leadership issue, stating they hold “no moment,” and reaffirmed that the party’s internal decisions remain valid and enforceable.
