The Peoples Democratic Party has vowed to address Nigeria’s rising hunger and poverty, positioning itself to reclaim the presidency and expand its current governorship hold in the 2027 elections.

During a visit to Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri’s country home in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area on Sunday, the PDP’s National Treasurer, Alhaji Ahmed Yayare, said the party was better suited to lead the country amid the current economic hardship.

“The cry of hunger and poverty is too much in the land,” Yayare said. “Nothing stops the PDP from producing the president and vice president in 2027. The APC cannot go out to campaign because they will be stoned. Nigeria is in your hands, and we need your support to salvage it.”

Yayare added that the PDP was committed to strengthening its presence nationwide, noting, “The 36 states of Nigeria are yearning for the return of PDP.”

Governor Douye Diri emphasized the need for unity within the party, stating, “As governors, we need to work closely together. We cannot because of political considerations do the wrong thing. If PDP dies in our hands, posterity will not forgive us.”

He further urged members to avoid divisive practices, saying, “If anybody is bigger than the party, the person can leave. It is PDP that has made most of us.”

Diri supported the idea of forming a mega party, with the PDP playing a leading role in rescuing Nigeria from its current challenges.

In Bauchi State, Governor Bala Mohammed reiterated his dedication to the PDP’s vision during a condolence visit by the National Working Committee (NWC) over the death of his stepmother, Hajiya Hauwa.

Mohammed, while appreciating the visit, stated, “I reaffirmed my commitment to working closely with our National Secretary, Udeh Okoye, to advance the party’s vision and contribute meaningfully to national development.”

He also welcomed thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the PDP, led by a youth leader, Usman Adamu.

At a ceremony in Azare, Bauchi State, Adamu officially joined the PDP with a large group of youths. He praised Governor Mohammed’s achievements, including improvements in education, health, and social sectors, as reasons for his defection.

“I am coming in to contribute my quota to the development of the state,” Adamu said. “Having seen what has been done, I am here to strengthen the party and make it remain in power beyond 2027.”

Receiving the defectors, Bauchi PDP Chairman Sama’ila Adamu Burga assured them of equal membership rights and encouraged them to support the state government’s development agenda.

With these developments, the PDP is positioning itself as a strong contender in the 2027 general elections, focusing on addressing economic challenges and rebuilding the party’s strength nationwide.
