The Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State has elected new officials to oversee its affairs following a state congress held in Ilorin, the state capital.
Hon. Adamu Bawa Issa emerged as the new state chairman after securing 1,498 votes from a total of 1,572 accredited delegates.
Other newly elected officials include Mrs. Wasilat Macarthy as deputy chairman, Mal. Abdullahi AbdulRahman as secretary, and Rev. Cornelius Fawenu as treasurer.
Also elected were Hon. Umar Shero (financial secretary), Olusegun Olushola (publicity secretary), Barr. Monsurat Omotosho (legal adviser), and Musa Bashir (auditor).
Describing the congress, the PDP national headquarters commended the exercise as a model of what a credible electoral process should look like.
The party’s returning officer, Jacob Mark, likened the conduct of the congress to “a family business,” underscoring the level of orderliness and unity displayed throughout the process.
Former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki also lauded party members for their discipline and commitment to internal democracy. He commended the peaceful nature of the exercise, stating: “The PDP has once again shown that it is the party that provides a level playing field and prioritises the will of the people.”
