The Peoples Democratic Party has denounced the formation of a so-called National Caretaker Committee by former Minister Nyesom Wike and his associates, describing the move as illegal and a furtherance of absurdity.

In a statement signed on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP said the committee was designed to advance the personal political interests of Wike and his group while falsely presenting itself as part of the PDP.

“The purported constitution of a so-called National Caretaker Committee by Nyesom Wike and his friends, clearly designed to coordinate their personal political affairs, would have passed unnoticed, just like the drab audience of their sympathy party, if they had not attempted to falsely cloak it in the name of the Peoples Democratic Party — a party that had duly expelled them, with certificates as evidence,” the statement read.

The PDP reaffirmed that its National Executive Committee and Board of Trustees remain intact under the leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, emphasizing that the party’s organs cannot be manipulated by former members.

The statement also referred to ongoing legal proceedings, noting that Wike and his agents had previously filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to nullify the PDP Convention and its outcomes.

The PDP said their application for an interim injunction was refused and warned that proceeding to announce a caretaker committee was in “clear contempt of the court.”

“By proceeding to announce a fictitious National Caretaker Committee, they have acted in clear contempt of the court and have fundamentally altered the status of the two plaintiffs in that suit,” Ememobong said.

The party accused Wike’s group of seeking to undermine the PDP and serving as “APC apologists,” asserting that their actions represented a deepening of illegality and obstruction of the party’s role as Nigeria’s main opposition.

“The public is already familiar with the comical spectacle that this group has become, with each new action overshadowing the last in sheer ridiculousness. We reassure our members and the nation that the PDP remains firmly on a path of rebirth, anchored on transparency, equity, honesty, and inclusiveness,” the statement added.
