PDP chieftain alleges plot by Wike, Aduda to destabilize party

Ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party North Central Zonal Congress scheduled for Saturday in Jos, Plateau State, frontline aspirant for the position of National Vice Chairman (North Central), Hon. Abraham Ajiya, has raised strong allegations against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and former Senator Philip Aduda.

Ajiya accused both leaders of conspiring to weaken the PDP in the region and of attempting to impose a candidate aligned with interests outside the party.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, May 21, Ajiya warned PDP stakeholders to reject manipulation and imposition, describing such moves as grave threats to the party’s internal democracy and foundational values.

“I speak not just as an aspirant but as a committed party man and a believer in the founding vision of the PDP as the true vessel of democracy in Nigeria,” Ajiya said.

He claimed there was an ongoing plan to hand over the North Central zone to the ruling All Progressives Congress, alleging that Wike and Aduda are backing a candidate not to fortify the PDP, but to advance a broader strategy favoring the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“It is no longer in doubt that the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, working through former Senator Philip Aduda, is pushing a candidate for the office of National Vice Chairman, North Central, to serve a wider political strategy that benefits the APC. This is not democracy; this is subversion,” he said.

Ajiya further accused the duo of engineering defections, conducting secret meetings, and using financial incentives to influence delegates.

“We have seen the warning signs—defections in the FCT, closed-door meetings, strategic endorsements, and cash inducements. All these point to a calculated agenda to weaken our party,” he added.

He emphasized that the North Central region, known as the birthplace of the PDP, must not be used as a political bargaining chip.

“This is the birthplace of the PDP, the home of our first national chairman, Chief Solomon Lar of blessed memory. We will not allow its legacy to be sold or compromised,” he declared.

Reaffirming his long-standing commitment to the party, Ajiya said, “I have never jumped ship. I have never betrayed our cause. My record speaks for itself. Through the highs and lows, I have remained faithful to this party.”

He called on delegates from Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, and the FCT to stand firm and defend the integrity of the congress process.

“I offer myself to serve—to rebuild, reunite, and reposition our party for victory in 2027 and beyond. Let us rise to defend the PDP and its democratic ideals,” he concluded.
