The Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees is holding an emergency meeting in Abuja to address the ongoing leadership crisis rocking the party.

The meeting, which is taking place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, aims to find solutions to the internal conflicts that have divided the party.

The meeting, held on February 5, 2025, is being attended by key party leaders, including the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara; the BoT Secretary, Senator Ahmed Makarfi; former governors Achike Udenwa, Sam Egwu, Babangida Aliyu; and Senator Ben Obi, among others.

One of the main issues being discussed is the dispute over the position of the PDP National Secretary. Two individuals, Samuel Nayanwu and Sunday Udeh-Okoye, are both claiming to be the rightful National Secretary. This disagreement has caused a deep split within the party.

To help resolve the crisis, the BoT will review a report prepared by former Minister of Special Duties, Tamini Turaki. Turaki was tasked with studying court documents submitted by both Nayanwu and Udeh-Okoye to determine the legality of their claims. The report is expected to guide the BoT in making a decision that will unite the party.

In his opening remarks, BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara commended the PDP governors for urging the party’s National Working Committee to hold a National Executive Council meeting in March. He also addressed the recent violence at the party’s secretariat, Wadata Plaza, which has raised security concerns.

The crisis over the National Secretary’s office has created tension within the party, with members taking sides and clashing over who should hold the position. This has weakened the party’s unity and raised concerns about its ability to function effectively.

The BoT meeting is seen as a crucial step toward resolving the crisis and restoring peace within the PDP.

Party leaders are hopeful that the decisions made during the meeting will help bring an end to the internal conflicts and strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
