The Assistant State Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Cross River South Senatorial District, Margaret Okon, has resigned from the party.

Her resignation comes just 48 hours after Emana Amawhe, the PDP deputy governorship candidate in the 2024 general elections, also stepped down.

In a letter to the Ward Chairman of Edem Odo Ward, Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Okon thanked the party for the opportunities she had while serving in various roles.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have served the party in various capacities, from being a ward executive member to serving as a councillor, and most recently, as a member of the State Executive Council and Assistant State Women Leader, South,” she wrote.

“These experiences have been invaluable, and I deeply appreciate the trust and support I received throughout my journey.”

She added that the lessons learned from her time in the PDP would help her in the future, saying, “As I take this step forward, I remain committed to the service of my community and the pursuit of progress for our people.”

Okon’s resignation adds to the recent political changes in Cross River State, following Amawhe’s exit from the party.
