A Nigerian pastor has decided to stop collecting offerings in his church because of the economic hardship affecting the country.
In a viral video, the pastor announced that the collection of offerings will be halted until the economy improves, especially the cost of fuel.
The pastor explained that many church members are struggling to afford transportation costs. He said, “Imagine someone coming to church, boarding a cab of N1,500 and still dropping offering, they might end up trekking home. Am I making sense? If you don’t drop money, it doesn’t mean a pastor won’t eat. Come and serve your God and go; until petrol comes down; It’s not easy.”
He urged other pastors and religious leaders to adopt the same approach to help alleviate the financial burden on their congregants.
“We are not to collect offerings today. For now, because of the situation of this country, we are pending offering. All pastors should note it, pending the situation of this country, they shouldn’t collect offerings,” he said.
The pastor emphasized that the focus should be on serving God without adding to the financial strain on church members. He concluded with a call to action: “To all pastors, stop collecting offerings for now.”
