A Nigerian cleric, Prophet Osagie Patrick, has predicted that the Nigeria Democratic Congress will withdraw its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to the pastor, the development is expected to occur between November and the first week of December 2026.

Speaking in a video that has since gained traction online, Patrick referenced an earlier prophecy he said he delivered during the 2003 Anambra governorship election. He claimed that at the time, he warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it would lose its grip on political power in the state and would no longer produce a governor there.

However, one aspect of the cleric’s account has been disputed. Patrick reportedly stated that former Anambra governor Chris Ngige spent only 16 days in office before being removed. Historical records show that Ngige served as governor from 2003 until 2005, when an election tribunal nullified his victory. The ruling was later upheld by the Court of Appeal.

Despite losing control of the Anambra governorship after Ngige’s exit, the PDP has continued to maintain a political presence in the state through elected representatives at both federal and state levels, including former Senator Stella Oduah.

Turning to the 2027 presidential race, Patrick alleged that the NDC leadership would eventually move against Obi. He claimed that party leaders would conspire to undermine the former Anambra governor, pass a vote of no confidence in him, and ultimately remove him as the party’s presidential candidate. The cleric further asserted that “Obi would be engaged in a legal battle over his candidacy at the time of the election”.

The prophecy has generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing differing opinions. Some rejected the prediction and offered prayers in support of Obi’s political aspirations.

One commenter, Cephas Okarefe, wrote: “This utterance, declaration, or prophecy is cancelled and declared null and void in the mighty name of Jesus! May the Lord, the creator of Heaven and Earth, preserve, protect, and defend Peter Obi and his candidacy in the 2027 general elections through the might of Jesus Christ.”

Another respondent, Oluwamidunsin, also opposed the prophecy, stating: “When God reveals. It’s so that people can stand in the gap, not so that it can come to pass for a prophet to boast. I stand in the Gap in the same Name of Jesus the prophet preaches, and I cancel this prophecy in Jesus Name. It is Null and void. Peter Obi will be on the ballot. He will win and be declared the winner. Nigeria will be governed greatly by him, and this Nation will be Free.”

A third commenter, identified as QuantumVerse, directed criticism at the NDC’s national leadership, saying: “This is what I have been saying. That Seriaki Dickson is a typical corrupt Nigerian politician. He’s been used to entrap the PO.”

Expressing skepticism about the prediction, Marvellous Israel argued that such revelations should inspire prayers rather than acceptance. He wrote: “The problem I have with this kind of prophecy is that you say it, and since you know it is not a good order, lead your church to pray against it. Conspiracies can fail. But everyone wants to do like na only them dey hear from God. This prophecy will not stand the test of time.”
