The Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor, has surrendered himself to the Lagos State Police Command amid allegations of rape and other offences likely to cause a breach of public peace.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed the development on Wednesday, saying the pastor turned himself in after failing to honour an earlier police invitation.

Jimoh explained that Okafor was invited by the State Criminal Investigation Department at Panti on Sunday but did not show up as promised on Monday.

“When he was invited, he got to us through his lawyer that he would be appearing on Monday. So, on Monday, we waited for him. We didn’t see him, and I directed that he should be arrested,” the CP said.

“Subsequently, he showed up yesterday. Yes, he showed up yesterday,” he added.

According to the police boss, the case has now been handed over to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Sylvester Alabi, for further investigation.

“We later learned that the same matter had been opened at the Zone 2 headquarters with the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, which I needed to verify, and I verified the same,” Jimoh said.

“And he told me the matter is being investigated under his command for about three weeks now. So, we handed the matter back to the Zone,” he explained.

Addressing complaints from alleged victims, the commissioner said the police now take online allegations seriously to prevent unrest.

“The social media has become a veritable space for people to lodge their complaints. We no longer wait for people to come and see the matter before we act in public interest, because if we don’t, the conduct can lead to a breakdown of law and order,” he said.

The allegations against Okafor became public in mid-December 2025 after several accusations surfaced online. Nollywood actress Doris Ogala was among those who accused the pastor of sexual misconduct, alleging a long-term relationship that began in 2017.

Following the public outcry, Okafor reportedly addressed his church on December 28, 2025, where he apologised for what he described as past mistakes and asked for forgiveness.

Reports also indicate that the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria is considering disciplinary measures against the cleric, who has stepped aside from his pastoral duties pending the outcome of investigations.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that adequate security has been provided for the alleged victims, adding that investigations are ongoing at both the SCID, Panti, and Zone 2 headquarters.
