A South African man suspected to be a pastor, has been detained by the police for allegedly detaining and repeatedly raping his child’s babysitter for two days.
The Police said that the 54-year-old clergyman would appear before a Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday to face charges of rape, human trafficking including the possession of a stolen vehicle, which was discovered in his home during a raid.
Confirming the report, IOL quoted a Free State Hawks’ Captain, Christopher Singo, who said that the suspect hired the 32-year-old victim on Friday, June 18 to babysit his four-year-old son.
Singo revealed that the suspect deceived the babysitter by telling her “he would be attending a church service in Thaba Nchu during the night and that she must look after his son on Friday, 18 June 2021.
“However, the suspect allegedly remained in the house that night and forced himself on the victim, repeatedly raping her throughout Friday and Saturday night. Her alleged plea to be released to go home was refused.”
Speaking further, Singo said that the suspect was arrested after the babysitter escaped with a cellphone and the man’s son.
He said she reached out to the police who raided that house of the suspected and arrested him.
“Meanwhile, the Hawks team were contacted to assist the victim, which led to the arrest of the suspect at his residence in Lakeview, Bloemspruit,” Singo said.
Singo said the suspect’s son was taken to his grandmother. The mother’s whereabouts were unknown.
