Lead Pastor of The Elevation Church, Godman Akinlabi, has urged Christians to be more intentional about the kind of music they listen to, warning against combining gospel and secular songs.

In a video shared by Instagram account @therealchurchgist, Akinlabi said believers must recognise the spiritual significance of music, especially at a time when many people are seeking hope, direction and encouragement.

“We cannot be in a season where people are complaining and we are still playing and singing the wrong music,” the cleric said.

He further cautioned Christians against attempting to blend secular and gospel music, insisting that the two cannot be combined.

“You cannot mix both Christian and worldly songs. It will not work,” Akinlabi stated.

The message has generated reactions on social media, with many users supporting his position while others debated the role of secular music in the lives of Christians.

Akinlabi is known for regularly addressing issues of faith, leadership and personal development through his teachings and public engagements.
