Passport automation application takes off in one week – Minister
The automation of Nigeria’s passport application process is nearly complete, with Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announcing that the system will be operational within a week.
Once fully implemented, Nigerians will only be required to visit immigration centers for fingerprint biometrics, while all other pre-biometrics steps, including uploading passport photographs and supporting documents, can be completed from the comfort of their homes.
“This will ensure that what Nigerians need to do at an immigration center is just fingerprint biometrics,” Minister Ojo explained.
“Everything regarding pre-biometrics will be done in the comfort of your homes, including uploading passport photographs and supporting documents.“
The minister also announced plans to install e-gate systems at international airports across the country by February 2024.
“By February, all our international airports will have e-gates,” he stated.
“Once you are a Nigerian coming to Nigeria, you have no business seeing an immigration officer except if you are a person of interest.”
