Parallex Bank has honoured 10 athletes from the Lagos State Sports Commission contingent who distinguished themselves at the 2025 edition of the National Youth Games, held in Asaba.
Each of the selected athletes received ₦1 million, bringing the total reward to ₦10 million, as part of the bank’s ongoing youth development and sports support initiatives.
The presentation ceremony took place at Parallex Bank’s headquarters in Lagos, where symbolic cheques were handed over to the athletes by the bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Olufemi Bakre. The event was attended by officials from the Lagos State Sports Commission, coaches, sports administrators, and other stakeholders in the sports sector.
Dr. Bakre emphasized that the initiative reflects the bank’s long-term belief in nurturing young talent and investing in the future through sports. He noted that the beneficiaries had demonstrated exceptional discipline, determination, and performance on the national stage.
“At Parallex Bank, we believe that investing in young people is an investment in the future. These exceptional athletes have demonstrated excellence, discipline and resilience, and we are proud to celebrate their achievements. Through this recognition, we reaffirm our commitment to empowering young talents and enabling limitless possibilities for the next generation,” he said.
Team Lagos’ strong showing at the competition, where athletes secured medals across multiple events, further reinforced the state’s standing as a key hub for youth sports development in Nigeria. Their performance at the games served as the backdrop for the recognition and financial reward.
Reacting to the gesture, the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission described the bank’s support as a clear example of meaningful private sector involvement in grassroots sports development.
He added that such interventions help motivate young athletes while complementing government efforts to grow sports across the state.
He further explained that the collaboration between the commission and Parallex Bank has developed into a sustained partnership aimed at rewarding excellence, encouraging performance, and inspiring more young people to pursue careers in sports.
This latest reward initiative builds on previous interventions by the bank in support of Lagos athletes at earlier editions of the National Youth Games, underscoring its broader focus on youth empowerment, education, community development, and long-term social impact.
By celebrating achievements beyond academic and professional spaces, the bank said it continues to encourage Nigerian youth to pursue excellence with discipline, resilience, and ambition.
