Kebbi to enact law to curb gender based violence

An explosion has occurred at the General Hospital in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, causing panic among residents but leaving no casualties.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed that the blast happened in the early hours of Tuesday within the hospital premises.

Speaking on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said security agencies quickly moved in to secure the area and prevent further danger.

“The Kebbi State Police Command wishes to assure members of the public Kebbi that we have full control of the security situation following the explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo,” Usman said in a statement.

He explained that a joint security team made up of police officers, military personnel and local vigilantes immediately cordoned off the area. He added that specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear unit were deployed to examine the scene.

According to the police, although a building within the hospital’s staff quarters was affected, everyone inside had already evacuated before the explosion.

“We are grateful to confirm that there were no casualties. Although a building within the staff quarters was damaged, the occupants had already evacuated safely,” Usman said.

The police spokesperson also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police has ordered the deployment of additional tactical teams to the area to ensure calm and reassure residents.

“A comprehensive investigation is currently ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion, and further updates will be communicated as necessary,” he added.

The police advised residents to remain calm and stay away from the immediate surroundings of the hospital to allow security operatives carry out their investigation without interference.
