Palliative: Two Nasarawa varsity students die in stampede

Two female students have reportedly died from stampede at Nasarawa State University that occurred at the university’s convocation square on Friday.

According to The PUNCH, the venue for the palliative distribution was the university’s square by the Nasarawa state government and it was reported the two female students died from the stampede that left others with several injuries.

The unnamed source said “what we are hearing now is that two female students have died. They were said to have been suffocated because of the crowd and they were later declared dead by healthcare workers”

The National President of the Nasarawa State Students Association, Yunusa Baduku confirmed the incident saying that most affected students have been moved to the hospital for medical treatment.

Yunusa said “ After our arrangement for the distribution of palliatives to the students which was to hold at the university’s convocation square, the students suddenly arrived in their numbers and overpowered the security to make way into the convocation square where the bag of rice was being shared”

He however said he could not confirm the number of students injured because some were in the school clinic while others at FMC.

The state Governor, Adullahi Sule, had recently donated two 7.5kg bag of rice and #5000 naira to each student of the Federal University of Lafia, Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia and the College of Education ,Akwanga
