The Oyo State Government has announced plans to purchase over 60,000 laptops for public senior secondary schools to prepare for the full transition to Computer-Based Tests by the West African Examinations Council.
The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olusegun Olayiwola, disclosed this during a visit by the WAEC Zonal Coordinator and Deputy Registrar, Mr. Waheed Amode, and his management team.
Olayiwola stated that Governor Seyi Makinde has directed the ministry to work out the cost implications for the procurement. The move aims to position the state ahead of the nationwide shift from pen-and-paper to digital examinations.
The commissioner commended WAEC for addressing challenges experienced during the 2025 exams and pledged the ministry’s continued support in curbing examination malpractice and preventing vandalism of school facilities.
In his remarks, Amode said the visit was to appreciate the state’s consistent collaboration with WAEC. He confirmed that registration for the 2026 May/June WAEC examination closed on February 2.
Amode explained that the forthcoming exams will be conducted using both CBT and traditional paper modes, depending on each school’s readiness. Schools wishing to participate fully in CBT must formally indicate their interest through official correspondence.
He also issued a strong warning against bringing mobile phones into examination halls, stating that such misconduct could lead to the cancellation of an entire school’s results. He urged principals and teachers to uphold integrity to strengthen educational standards.
