The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency has secured the conviction of Wahab Olabanji, a former Chief Executive Officer (Accounts) at the state’s Hospital Management Board, for fraudulently collecting money from job seekers under the pretense of offering them employment.

Olabanji, who was on grade level 14 prior to his prosecution, was accused of obtaining various sums from individuals who had applied for positions during the most recent recruitment exercises at the Hospital Management Board and the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission.

The Chairman of OYACA, Justice Eni Esan (retd.), disclosed this development in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ibadan, the state capital.

She said: “The man was convicted on a 30 count charge of official corruption, obtaining money under false pretense and conversion, however, after rigorous 17-month trial, the court delivered its judgement on Friday, August 1, 2025, in which the defendant was found guilty on all the 30-counts charge and he was sentenced to imprisonment for six months with an option of N50,000 fine on each count of the charge.”

Justice Esan further explained that the court ordered Olabanji to refund all monies fraudulently collected from his victims within a three-month period, as restitution for the harm caused by his actions.

She added: “The court also ordered the defendant to pay all sums fraudulently obtained from his victims within three months in order to remedy the wrong suffered by the victims due to the corrupt and fraudulent actions of the defendant.”

The OYACA chairperson reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance stance toward corruption within the Oyo State public service.
