The Oyo State Government has approved road and infrastructure projects worth more than N113 billion, to be funded from the N300 billion loan earlier cleared by the State House of Assembly.

The Commissioner for Works and Public Transport, Mojeed Mogbonjubola, announced the approval on Tuesday after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.

According to him, the new approvals cut across both fresh and ongoing projects in different parts of the state.

Top on the list is the asphalt reconstruction and rehabilitation of the 13.6km Ojoo Interchange–IITA–Moniya Junction–Akinyele Interchange with spurs to the New Oyo Expressway in Ibadan, costing N63.6 billion.

Other projects include the continuation of thermoplastic road markings, kerbs painting, and limited patching on Ibadan roads at N444.8 million. The first phase will cover SDP–All Motors and Airport Road with adjoining routes.

The dualisation of the 6.2km Ajia Junction (Ibadan/Ife Interchange) to Nigeria Air Force Base Road was also approved at N17.1 billion.

In addition, the council approved the reconstruction of Okaka Junction–Otu Igbojaye–KAP Village Road (30km), including bridges across Otu and Ofiki rivers, at N26.4 billion.

The expansion of work on the Apete–Awotan–Akufo Road (12km) and rigid pavement on Akufo Farm Settlement Road (2.2km) will take N1.9 billion. Asphaltic construction of Isaba–Ogundoyin Road (0.75km) and the Lanlate Garage–Polytechnic Oke Ola Junction Road (1.9km) in Eruwa will cost N4.1 billion.

Mogbonjubola added that the government approved the planting of economic trees along the 32km Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road (Phase 1) for N108 million. He assured that all projects would be completed within 12 to 18 months to boost economic growth in Oyo State.

Beyond road works, the council also set aside N110 million for the camping and hosting of Nigeria’s Under-20 Female National Football Team as they prepare for their Women’s World Cup qualifying match against Rwanda in Ibadan.

The Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Akin-Funmilayo Williams, explained that 35,000 seedlings will also be planted around the Tech-U Junction to Badeku section of the Ibadan Circular Road. He said the plan is to “increase oxygenation and environmental beauty on the road.”
