Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has dismissed rumours that he and some state leaders are planning to dump the All Progressives Congress for the African Democratic Congress.

The rumour claimed that former governor Kayode Fayemi was leading the move. But Oyebanji, in a statement on Monday, said the report was false and meant to mislead the public.

He said, “It is nothing but another tissue of lies from the camp of some disgruntled elements in the state.”

The governor spoke through his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, saying, “Governor Oyebanji and the public officeholders mentioned in the report remain firmly rooted in the All Progressives Congress and have no link, neither do they have any plan whatsoever to join the ADC.”

Oyebode said Fayemi had even attended the last APC caucus meeting in Iyin-Ekiti, where party leaders endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji for second terms. He said this meeting and its outcome were widely reported across the media.

He reminded critics that Oyebanji has been a loyal member of the progressive movement in Ekiti since 1999 and has never left the party.

He added that some politicians were trying to use the governor’s close relationship with Fayemi to create tension between him and President Tinubu. But he noted that the president is a strategic leader who can see through such moves.

The statement said, “These desperate politicians have no clue about how to market their candidature or connect with the people. So, they are busy making up lies on social media to cover their frustrations.”

With the Independent National Electoral Commission now announcing a date for the primary election, Oyebode said those eyeing the governorship seat should come forward and face the people instead of spreading falsehood.
