Four members of a family die after vehicle plunges into river on Lagos-Benin Expressway

Four members of one family, including a baby, have died in an auto crash at Ofosu on the Benin-Lagos Expressway.

The incident happened last Sunday the boundary town between Edo and Ondo States.

The vehicle, a Toyota Sienna, reportedly plunged into the river which marks the border between Edo and Ondo States, killing all except a female passenger who survived with injuries.

An eyewitness, Mr Jefferson Uwoghiren, a lawyer said he met the scene on his way to the Edo State capital from Lagos.

According to him, there are conflicting statements on the actual brand of vehicle that plunged into the river.

He said while some persons he spoke to said it is a private car with husband, wife and children, others said it was a commercial bus.

Uwoghiren, however, confirmed that he saw a baby and three other bodies being pulled out by a team of sympathizers who gathered in the rescue operation before the arrival of men of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

The Unit Commander of FRSC, RS5. 12, Okada Unit, Mr A. C. Abdullahi confirmed that four persons including a baby died in the fatal accident.

The accident according to him, occurred at the Ofosu Bridge and it involved a green Toyota Sienna.

Also, the Edo Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Anthony Oko confirmed the incident, which he attributed to over speeding.

Oko said the corpses have been taken to Ago Itunu Hospital and mortuary at Ofosu in Ondo State.
