The United Nations’ International Organization for Migration reports a staggering 76,018 people displaced in Lebanon due to nearly three months of continuous border clashes between Israel and Hezbollah.

The heightened violence in the border region, following the deadly Hamas attack in southern Israel on October 7 and subsequent conflicts in Gaza, has witnessed frequent rocket, missile, and drone attacks from the Iran-backed Hezbollah group. Israel, in response, has targeted Hezbollah positions near the border.

The IOM’s report, published on Thursday, reveals that a majority of the displaced individuals, 80%, are seeking refuge with relatives, while only 2% are residing in 14 collective shelters across southern Lebanon, mainly in the city of Tyre and the Hasbaya region.

The remaining population has opted for rented apartments or relocated to areas farther from the border.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant shared figures with US special envoy Amos Hochstein, stating that over 80,000 residents in northern Israel have also been displaced due to the ongoing cross-border clashes. Gallant affirmed that military operations in southern Gaza would persist.

In a parallel development, Gaza’s Ministry of Health reported 125 casualties and 318 injuries in 24 hours.

The death toll from Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7 stands at 22,438, with at least 57,614 individuals wounded.

The revised death toll from the October 7 attack on Israel is reported as 1,139.
