More than 40,000 villagers have been reportedly displaced in the Miango community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State as Fulani militia continue to burn to houses.

Nuhu Bitrus, the spokesman of the Miango Youths Development Association, in an interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday raised the alarm to the authorities.

Bitrus said the renewed destruction of their houses and farmlands is coming after suspected herdsmen attacked some communities leaving over forty people dead.

He said on Tuesday,  the Fulani militia stormed another village in Gene last night and set several houses on fire.

Bitrus said that many have been driven to the bushes while others had been injured in their attempt to flee from the attackers.

According to him, outcries from the Irigwe ethnic nationality in Bassa had reached a crescendo for the authorities to intervene in their current ordeal and save them in the hands of the Fulani militia.

Bitrus said, “The Fulani militia Herdsmen are still burning our houses. Just last night, Tuesday, they went to another village called Gene and burnt all the houses.

“The whole village is now deserted. The number of houses which the Fulani militia has so far set ablaze in several villages in the past few days was over two thousand five hundred with over one thousand hecters of farmlands destroyed.

“More than fifty people have also been killed while over 40,000 others have been displaced.”

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in Jos, the state capital to forestall a spillover of the violence to the city centre.

Although the spokesman for Operation Safe Haven, Major Ishaku Takwa, said he was not aware of any joint security patrol involving men of the task force to beef up security in the city centre when contacted, the State Commissioner for Information, Dan Manjang said that Governor Simon Lalong had given an order that security personnel should occupy the state.
