Ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State, a momentous political shift occurred as over 2000 members from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and Zenith Labour Party made a decisive move by joining the ruling All Progressives Congress on Wednesday.

Among the notable defectors from the PDP were former House of Representatives candidate Dare Aliu, Senatorial candidate Dr. Felder Olatunji, and other prominent figures such as Hon Prince Olu Falolu and Hon Ayodele Ikumawoyi. The defection also encompassed key members from the ZLP.

In welcoming the new members into the APC fold, Hon. Ade Adetimehin, the Chairman of the APC in the state, expressed unwavering confidence in the party’s continued leadership in the state and the nation at large. Adetimehin underscored the influx of prominent politicians from the state into the APC, indicating a significant momentum shift towards the progressive movement.

Assuring the defectors of equitable treatment within the party, Adetimehin stressed the importance of unity and collective effort within the APC ranks, emphasizing the seamless integration of the party and government operations in Ondo State.

“We just received the remaining pillars in Ondo PDP. The PDP is now a carcass in Ondo State. In Ondo APC, the party and the government are one.

“We work together in one accord. Having come to APC, there is no founder no joiner. We will treat you equally in our wards and local government. Come and display your capacity in the APC,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, former PDP lawmaker Tomide Akinribido reaffirmed their dedication to securing a resounding victory for the APC in the impending governorship polls. Akinribido pledged to foster cohesion and collaboration within the party, aligning their objectives with the overarching goals of the APC.

Echoing sentiments of unity and progress, former PDP chieftain Chief Tony Ala expressed steadfast optimism in the APC’s electoral triumph, foreseeing a significant victory margin of over 700,000 votes. He emphasized the transformative impact expected in Akure South under APC governance.

Former House of Representatives candidate Dare Aliu elucidated his rationale for joining the APC amidst economic challenges, expressing hope for the nation’s prosperity and urging others to join the progressive movement for the advancement of Ondo State.
