Over 100 Boko haram members surrender to troops – DHQ
The Defence Headquarters announced on Friday that a significant number of Boko Haram terrorists and their families, totaling 112 individuals, surrendered to the troops in Borno State.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, shared details of the operation in a statement.
According to Buba, the surrender took place between December 27, 2023, and January 2, 2024. He stated, “112 terrorists comprising 12 adult males, 39 adult females, and 61 children surrendered to troops.”
During the operations, the troops encountered resistance from the terrorists, resulting in casualties and injuries on both sides.
Buba reported, “The troops killed eight terrorists, arrested 10, and rescued two hostages. Two soldiers sustained injuries during an encounter with IEDs.”
The recovered items from the surrendered terrorists included weaponry and other materials.
Buba listed, “Six AK-47 rifles, one FN rifle, one fabricated SMG, 12 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 257 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, two magazines, one Boafeng HH radio, one vehicle, one motorcycle, one tricycle, two mobile phones, 15 bicycles, and the sum of N77,410.00.”
The director also provided information on other operations in Biu, Bama, and Konduga LGAs of Borno State, where five terrorists were neutralized, and additional weapons and items were recovered.
Furthermore, in separate incidents, two ISWAP/JAS terrorists surrendered in Dikwa LGA of Borno State, each with AK-47 rifles loaded with 37 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo.
Addressing operations in Damaturu LGA of Yobe State, Buba mentioned that a suspected kidnapper surrendered, submitting one AK47 rifle and one fabricated SMG.
While responding to a distress call in Geidam LGA of Yobe State, the troops encountered a terrorist attack, resulting in casualties among civilians and the troops.
The director noted, “The troops, while exploiting the general area, encountered an explosion of IED, injuring two personnel. The troops, however, recovered 64 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, one Boafeng HH radio, and one torchlight.”
