Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has rewarded Super Falcons defender, Miracle Usani, with ₦50 million and a plot of land in Calabar for her role in Nigeria’s victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Otu also appointed Usani as the state’s Sports Ambassador during a reception held at the Government House in Calabar on Thursday.

The governor praised the player for her hard work and determination, saying her performance brought pride to Cross River, Nigeria, and Africa.

“Your courage and performance have brought honour to our state. You’ve shown that what a man can do, a woman can do even better. You are a symbol of excellence and resilience,” Otu said.

He also promised continued support for sports development in the state, noting that sports have become a major economic and developmental tool.

Encouraging young people to learn from Usani’s story, the governor said her success shows that focus and determination can lead to greatness.

Presenting the reward, he said, “We have approved ₦50 million and a plot of land in Calabar for you. You are now on our VVIP protocol list and will serve as Sports Ambassador of Cross River State.”

Usani, who plays for Edo Queens FC, thanked the governor for the honour and recalled her early struggles in football.

“My journey wasn’t easy. I played football with boys because there were no female teams where I grew up. People discouraged me, but I remained focused,” she said.

She added that she was proud to represent Nigeria and Cross River on the world stage, dedicating her success to God, her parents, and her home state.

Usani was part of the Super Falcons squad that won Nigeria’s record-extending 12th WAFCON title earlier this year.
