Osun RTEAN raises alarm over land dispute, seeks Adeleke’s intervention
The leadership of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria in Osun State has raised alarm over a likely clash over a land dispute in the Iree community, Boripe Local Government Area.
The association’s chairman in Iree, Mr Sunday Adeosun, disclosed that a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party has perfected plans to confiscate their land for his personal use.
Adeosun said the union’s land, which is being used as a park, was ceded to them by the government in 2010, but the PDP chieftain has made several attempts to get the land through court, which he lost.
He accused the PDP chieftain of using the local government authority to try to take their land and threatening them with guns and weapons.
“The chieftain of the PDP because they are the one in power is trying to use local government authority to rob us of our land for personal use. He has been threatening us with guns and weapons.
“We have written a petition to the Assistant General of Police, Osun Government, Department of State Service, and Commissioner of Police to notify them of a possible clash over the land. Armed thugs have been threatening us.”
He called on Governor Ademola Adeleke and security agencies to intervene before the crisis snowballed into killings and the destruction of properties.
