The Osun State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council has appealed to political parties, stakeholders and voters to ensure that tomorrow’s governorship election is peaceful and devoid of tension or rancour.
The state IPAC chairman, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, made the appeal in a statement issued in Osogbo yesterday, describing the election as another important opportunity for the people of Osun to elect leaders who can promote sustainable development in the state. He also urged voters to make their choices based on their conscience.
Odeyemi called on all registered voters to participate actively in the election and exercise their civic responsibility, cautioning that low voter turnout could create room for undemocratic forces to influence the state’s political future.
“Going to vote is your civic responsibility. Do not sell your vote. Do not allow anyone to intimidate you. Your PVC is your power to determine who governs you for the next four years,” Odeyemi stated.
On security arrangements for the poll, the IPAC chairman urged personnel deployed across the state to uphold professionalism, impartiality and diligence before, during and after the election.
“Their duty is to protect voters, electoral officials, materials and result collation centres across the 30 local government areas of the state. You must ensure you do your job diligently without compromise,” he said.
He further warned that incidents such as ballot box snatching, thuggery and other forms of violence should attract firm action in line with existing laws.
Odeyemi also appealed to parents and guardians to discourage their children and wards from being recruited as political thugs or participating in activities capable of disrupting peace and public order.
